The process of completing the road map allows you to verbalise to yourself where you are now and where you want to go. The action of writing down your thoughts is you answering to yourself and can provide direction and focus for moving forward. The power of thought allows you to take ownership, responsibility and become accountable for the actions you take towards your health.
This process is about you being awesome and the best version you deserve to be.

Stage 1 – Where am I now?
- What does it look like now– ask yourself what your current health and wellbeing looks like. Asking those difficult questions and providing the honest answers is often the start of YOUR journey.
- Triggers – what triggers your subsequent actions in your life, is it stress, bad habits, lack of information, maybe time, planning, finances. The triggers within your life are many and varied and once you recognise these and understanding them will allow you to move forward. Think what they are and write them down.
- Barriers to Change – What is stopping you make that change in your life, why are you putting it off every day, are you making excuses as to why you can’t do things. Is your lifestyle stopping you. Again, putting time and thought to your honest answers with be key to you moving forward.
- How do I behave – Is your behaviour habit, is your behaviour a negative response and are you lacking that self-control to say No. Does that stress barrier make you eat, reach for alcohol at the end of a busy day or lose that motivation to think about your health. Think about making positive behaviour changes.
- Who or what inspires you? – this is as varied as you are, is it music, feeling better, building self-esteem, someone on social media or even a genuine desire to be a better version of yourself. The choice is yours.
- Why I want to change – This can be a difficult question but one that can give you a powerful answer. Don’t be afraid to answer how you truly feel, is it just to feel better about yourself, more confidence, better body composition, is it to fit in a smaller dress size.

Stage 2 – My Road Map to Success
- Habits of Change– habits are key to your success and reward in moving forward. The choosing of three habits will help cement the new healthy lifestyle approach you are wishing to take. Focus on the positive habit as this will help you change bad habits and feel so much better about the journey ahead.
- Goals/Aims – these can be short-, medium- and long-term goals. The key is too have all three as even a daily or weekly goal with help maintain focus and reward. If we have one long term goal that could take months to achieve even the strongest resolve will waiver and struggle with willpower to stay the course.
- Physical Return – Envisage what this looks like for you, what does the best physical health mean. Does it mean getting up and doing a couch to 5K or is it about just increasing daily movement and being more active. Maybe body shape and composition are a driving factor to feeling better about yourself and building that confidence. Embracing the elements and nature is also an enhancing process which greatly supports your overall mental and physical health.
- Emotional return – The power of thoughts and feeling and the focus on the positives will be a continued process. Embracing your emotions, understanding that life will have its lows, accepting them as you meet the demands of everyday life. Without the storm we don’t have the rainbows. Emotional strength creates greater resilience.
- How I measure success – This, very much like you is a personal point of view and how you view it. Taking your time to reflect on this is key to you having a more successful approach. The small successes are the ones that reward the most and allow you to stay motivated and move forward. Think of the little things every day that mean something to you, it is the smallest of achievements that will inspire you.
- Course of Action – it is the response to your behaviours and the actions you take that will lead to your success. Be kind to yourself, be truthful and make it happen and without the self-control and sticking to the plan your course of action will fail you. Use your habits to create consistent behaviours, these will be your actions on your journey to health. View your action success in terms of percentages, either 70/30 or as much as an 80/20 split will reward greatly. Perfection doesn’t happen all the time but working towards better days more than bad days will lift you greatly.
